About Me
My name is Luke, and I am going to try my best not to be boring in this "About Me."
According to all of my friends and family, all of whom are completely unbiased and professional adults, I am a good guy to be around.
I went to a small private college in Dubuque, Iowa, called Loras College. I got to school with every intention of becoming a high school history teacher, which I immediately decided wasn't going to happen after my first day of Russian Novels. I dropped that plan right away and took several subpar classes until I stumbled into a photography course. After that, it was all media all the time.
I worked hard throughout college to make videos and take photos that I enjoyed and that also got me solid grades. I'll spare the details, but I made a lot of very different videos, which culminated in opportunities to work in cool places with cool people. I have done a lot of odd
things for a shot. From going 12,000 feet up in a prop plane with the door open to get a three-second video clip, to standing in a mall while being borderline bullied by a middle-aged man because I was taking photos of mall walkers and he happened to be in the background, I have done it all.
I like to make conversation, but when it's time to work, I work. If you want someone who will be on time and get stuff done, I'll be that person. I will also be the person who advocates for my colleagues and tries to make even the most mundane parts of the job fun. I work great in teams, and I can hold my own when working alone.
I got into media because I genuinely enjoy making something out of nothing and telling stories. When I graduated college, I was apparently good enough to get hired by one of my professors to work full-time with Loras College Productions (LCP). LCP is actually not a part of Loras College, which makes it really easy to explain to family members—especially when I have to explain that I work for LCP but am contracted full-time with the Dubuque Community School District.
My 8-to-5 takes place at the district's Forum, where my coworker Michael and I cover the district's 19 schools. We take photos, make short- and long-form videos, and handle live streams.
That is the most boiled-down version of myself I can give. I hope it wasn't too boring.
I can't promise that I am the best at anything other than grilling a brat, but I can promise that I am a hard worker who will put himself in odd situations to get the shot. I also try hard to be a fun coworker and teammate. I believe the best work is done when you're having fun.
I have been doing all things media since 2022, and I haven't had a truly bad day doing it yet.
